Platina 220
Rua Bom Sucesso, Tatuapé, São Paulo, Brasil
Platina 220, a mixed-use building located in Tatuapé, in São Paulo’s East Zone, is the tallest in the city — standing 172 meters high with 50 floors. It is part of the Platina Axis, an urban development proposal aimed at creating a new urban centre, conceived by Porte Engenharia in collaboration with Königsberger Vannucchi.
Situated across from Tatuapé Mall, the building integrates multiple functions: retail on the ground floor, hotel and residential units on the lower third, office suites in the middle section, and corporate office floors at the top. This mix aims to attract businesses to the area while reducing the need for residents to commute to other parts of the city.
Platina features a striking volumetry, with ventilated porcelain-clad façades in light tones. The central prismatic block, with terraces and windows placed at varying positions, creates a play of light and shadow, presenting the building as a sculpted monolith within the landscape. Flanking volumes in darker tones preserve verticality and act as buttresses, enhancing the perception of structural support.
The main entrance is on Rua Bom Sucesso, where the primary prism “lands” at ground level. Along the perimeter of the block, retail spaces generate two external zones: tree-lined public sidewalks and private leisure areas above the shops for the building’s users.
To reach its full development potential and obtain urban benefits, all available tools from São Paulo’s 2014 New Master Plan were utilized. The result is a building that seeks to revitalize the surrounding area with its mixed-use program, active façades, and interaction with the street.
